Privacy at UpNoord

Version 15 October 2026

Who we are

UpNoord (upnoord.nl) is a guide to Amsterdam Noord. UpNoord belongs to Stannet.iT B.V., Batteryparkstraat 17, Amsterdam, Chamber of Commerce number 35030900. We are responsible for what happens to your data. Privacy questions: [email protected]. General questions: [email protected].

The site and the app were developed by StanNEXT (stannext.net), the development studio of Stannet.iT (stannet.nl).

Asking VRAAG a question

Your question goes to the language model of Mistral, in the EU. We keep the text of your question for 4 months to improve VRAAG, without your IP address, name or email address. Please do not put personal details in your question. Reading an answer aloud happens on our own server.

If you turn on the "More of Noord" switch, VRAAG also searches housing offers, official notices and meetings of the district committee. The data found is then also sent to Mistral, but without house numbers, postcodes or other figures; we remove figures and postcodes from your question before it goes to Mistral. Your choice for the switch is stored only in your own browser. On our server we count per day how often the switch is turned on or off, without anything about you: no IP address, no cookie, no number.

The newsletter

We keep your email address, your language, when you signed up and confirmed, and the IP address you signed up with. The latter is our proof that you gave permission yourself. We send the newsletter via SMTP2GO. If you do not confirm your signup, we delete the address after 7 days. You can unsubscribe with one click at the bottom of every newsletter; your data is then gone within a day.

Submitting an event

We only use your name and email address to contact you about your submission. We also keep the IP address of the submission, against abuse. We delete your name, email and IP address 12 months after the date of the event, or 3 months after we decided not to publish a submission. The details of the event itself (title, date, place, description) may appear on the site; your name and email address do not.

An organiser account

If you have a login to manage your events, we keep your name, email address, organisation and an encrypted password, and temporarily your IP address when you log in. Your account remains as long as you use it; after 24 months without logging in we delete it. You can ask for earlier deletion via [email protected].

Official notices from the city

On Government and Housing we show official notices from the City of Amsterdam for the Noord district from the last 60 days, with a link to the full decision. If a decision is about someone's home (such as a B&B, holiday rental, a second home or a conversion), we only show the street: no house number, no postcode, no point on the map. After 60 days a notice disappears from our site. We ask search engines not to include this list. VRAAG may also mention these notices in an answer, with the same limits and with a link to the official decision. VRAAG does not give legal advice; deadlines and how to object are in the decision itself. Is there something about your address that you would rather not see here, email [email protected]; we remove it within 7 days.

News from Noord

Under News we show headlines from AT5 and Radio Boven IJ about Amsterdam Noord, unchanged, with the date and a link to the article at the source (for Radio Boven IJ, to their news page). We store only the headline, the date and the link, not the article itself; we read the first paragraph only to recognise articles about crimes. Ordinary headlines are kept without an end date, so you can look back later at what happened in Noord. Articles about crimes are kept and shown for 7 days; after that they are gone. Every week we check whether the link to AT5 still works: if the source removes an article, we remove the headline too, and if the source changes the headline, we take over the new one. The archive can only be searched through VRAAG and is not in search engines. You can search these headlines by place and topic, not by people's names; VRAAG does not answer questions about people. To pick the matching headlines, Mistral's language model receives only the headlines, with words that could be a name blacked out, and the search words from your question that cannot be a name; never your literal question and never articles about crimes. We do not store your news question. If you appear in a headline and do not want to see it here, email [email protected]; we remove it within 7 days, even if the article stays online at the source.

Noord on Instagram

If you tag @upnoord or mention us in a post or story, we see your public post. We only share an image if you give us permission with YES (JA), and always with your name. We keep your Instagram name, the link to the post, the caption and your answer while we show the image and for one year after that as proof of your permission. With STOP or via [email protected] you withdraw your permission; we then remove the image within 7 days, including your other posts.

Local guides

Guides are 18 or older and gave separate permission for their profile page (name, photo, Instagram name, speciality). They can withdraw that permission at any time; the profile then goes offline straight away. For the arrangement with the guide and what they received from us or a partner, we keep data until 12 months after the cooperation ends.

Partners

For the arrangement with a partner we keep the name of the organisation, the name and email address of the contact person, the Instagram name and the agreement (the text, the date and how it was given). We use this to carry out the arrangement and to send the monthly overview. We keep it until one year after the partnership ends.

Contest

When an #upnoord contest is running, we keep the list of participants until 3 months after the announcement and the winner's details for 1 year.

Video and Instagram on the site

YouTube videos and Instagram posts only load when you click on them. Until that click, YouTube and Instagram receive nothing from you. After the click your browser connects to YouTube (via youtube-nocookie.com, from Google) or Instagram (from Meta), and their privacy rules apply.

Why we are allowed to do this

Who works with us

We do not sell your data to anyone. We make no decisions about you that are taken by a computer alone.

Your rights

You may ask which data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, have its processing restricted, object, and receive your data in a usable file. If you gave permission, you can always withdraw it. Email [email protected]; we reply within a month. If you disagree with us, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

Changes

If something changes at UpNoord that affects your data, we update this page. The date of the latest version is always at the top.
